What can eating and exercising psychology do for you?

Many of the people I work with come to me feeling trapped and numb. They live with an inner restlessness, a homesickness, an anxious ache that bubbles beneath the surface. Deep down they know – we all know – that life can be more joyful, more beautiful, more meaningful than this. And yet we find ourselves imprisoned by habits, fears, jobs, relationships and routines.

For many of the people I work with, food has become their only coping strategy. They comfort eat, they chronically diet, they ping pong from obsessing over every calorie they consume to giving up on their health and fitness goals entirely, resigning themselves to always being overweight, or never having a relaxed, life-enhancing relationship with food.

After working with hundreds of clients over the past decade, I've learnt that whatever your health and fitness goal is, you probably don't need willpower, more information or more conflicting and confusing meal plans and diet rules.

What you probably need is a safe space to question what you have been conditioned to believe, to honour the stress you have been through, to understand how your relationship with food is both helping you cope with stress and trauma and causing you pain.

Whether your goal is
fat loss, weight gain, energy and vitality, recovering from hypothalamic amenorrhea or cultivating a healthier relationship with exercise and a more relaxed, intuitive relationship with food, moving closer to your goals is about feeling safe enough to take the risk to change. Safe enough to release the eating habits that no longer serve you. Safe enough to explore new ways of eating, living and being.

Much of the support I offer clients is rooted in evidenced-based, psychologically-informed, trauma-sensitive behaviour change strategies that will empower you to bridge the gap between where you are now and where you want to be. Ultimately, eating and exercise psychology is about giving you the tools to eat in a way that embodies your values, moves you towards your goals, and empowers you to live a healthy, rich, joy-filled life.

What does eating and exercise psychology & integrative counselling involve?

The people I work with come to me for issues that might seem unrelated at first – to improve their relationship with food, to cope better with stress, to learn how to set boundaries – but I have found that each of these themes are like threads woven into the fabric of our lives. When we begin untangling one thread, we often find it tethered to all the others.

This is why I take an integrative approach to my work. My training in multiple modalities, including sport and exercise psychology, nutrition, spiritual counselling, Ayurveda, yoga, breathwork, meditation and intuitive eating counselling means we can draw on many different tools depending on what you need.

These may include:

Ways we can work together

Online

I offer long-term and short-term coaching and counselling via Zoom. Some people come with a specific issue they'd like to work on within a limited time and others would like regular, long-term support over months and years to help them navigate the full catastrophe of being human.

I begin all regular counselling sessions with 90-minute initial consultation, followed by bi-weekly, weekly or fortnightly sessions depending on the level of support you feel you need (50 minutes).
