WITH LOVE...

If you remember, back on day one I shared with you a couple of things I’ve learnt over the last couple of years, mainly:

1. Waking up is worth the effort.

Sure, it’s easier to scroll mindlessly through your phone than it is to go and meditate. And, yes it’s easier drive to the chain supermarket to buy the imported avocado than it is to walk half an hour to the local farmer’s market and get a selection of organic, wonky veg. And of course it’s easier to stay in your comfort zone and follow the status quo than it is to make big life changes that are more in line with your values.

Because, the truth is, there are a thousand paths through the world that are easier than awakening. But, who wants it easy when you can have peace and joy and the kind of wild and precious love that trickles and thunders through your body, breaking your heart open to every soft and tender thing in this world and flooding every cell of your being with aliveness?

2. You’ll fall back to sleep pretty often.

Our society is not built for awakening. In fact, a lot of things in our culture are designed to keep us asleep — to keep us slightly numbed out and zombie-like or we wouldn’t be as productive, as efficient, as materialistic.

Because, as you wake up, you start to say “no” to many of the practices of society — the sexism, racism and ageism, the consumerist culture, the polluted environment, the pharmaceutical industry, the cheap, carcinogenic food, the pressure for constant productivity.

That’s why meditation is crucial — it helps you stay awake. Because every hour of every day the world will tell you ‘this’ is important and ‘this’ is important and ‘this’ is important. Only when you stop, only when you find stillness, only when you get to know every dark and dusty corner of your soul, will you be able to place your hand on your heart and say, “no, this is important.”

I hope this guide has opened your eyes to a new way of seeing the word and a new way of being in the world. A way of being where struggle is no longer the default state of life. A way of being where you no longer feel the need to work yourself to the bone to prove your worth. A way of being where success looks a lot less like money and power and fame, and a lot more like crying and laughing and dancing with the people you love, more like pausing to notice beauty, more like speaking out for what you believe in, more like waking up each day falling in love with being alive.

Thank you for joining me on this journey to awakening. If you have any questions or comments, please get in touch — I would love to hear about your experience and what you have learnt over the last six months. I'm also turning Don't Scratch the Itch into a little ebook so I will let you know when that is available. If you have found this guide valuable and would like to contribute to support continued work like this (zero is welcome!), you can donate below.
May you continue to meditate.
May you continue to walk mindfully on this earth.
May you continue to wake up to the beauty of being alive.
