If we want to reach our full potential, pressure is unavoidable. If we want to be better at what we do, we have to keep pushing ourselves beyond our perceived limits. We have to put ourselves in situations that challenge us. We have to develop the capacity to deal with demanding and difficult moments and embrace discomfort as an invitation to step up to the next level.
Whether in sport or business, at the elite level, success largely depends on whether we shy away from a challenge or rise to the occasion; whether we avoid these high-pressure moments because they make us feel uncomfortable or we are afraid of failure, or whether we actively seek them out and relish these challenges as opportunities to learn and grow.
Performance Psychology offers elite athletes, coaches, leaders, businesses and brands Mindfulness-Based Mental Fitness training alongside a individual Performance Counselling.
Mindfulness-Based Mental Fitness
We can feel guilty about the past, apprehensive about the future, but only in the present can we act. The ability to pay attention to the present moment is a major component of peak performance. Mindfulness-Based Mental Fitness ensures athletes, coaches and leaders are in a position where they are performing their best at whatever they are doing.
Used by Special Force snipers, Navy SEALs, and world-class athletes, MindfulnessBased Fitness Training offers systematic mental exercises and psychological strategies to optimise cognitive functioning and facilitate peak performance in order to gain an advantage over the competition.
Mindfulness-Based Mental Fitness includes:
MENTAL FITNESS TRAINING SESSIONS Team-based mindfulness training focussed on key elements of peak performance such as flow state, emotion regulation, resilience, self-confidence and team cohesion, delivered in a fun, systematic and practical way.
PERFORMANCE PRACTICES Simple rituals and habits such as meditation, breathing exercises and self-reflection that can be embedded in daily routines
HIGH PERFORMANCE CULTURE Fostering a mindful culture in which all team members respond unitedly to high pressure situations, proactively discuss conflict, and are committed to helping everyone else in any way possible.
Performance Counselling
Sometimes we need somebody else to read between the lines. To hold up a mirror, showing us what we haven’t been able to see on our own. Performance counselling is for leaders, coaches and athletes who are serious about reaching their ultimate potential. It offers a confidential space for high-performing individuals to get out of their own way; to explore the things that are holding them back; to let go of mental clutter so they have more mental energy to give to their sport; to talk about their fears and their regrets; to untangle limiting beliefs; to discover their inner strengths and learn how to apply them when they are under pressure.
Until we make our unconscious beliefs conscious, they will limit our performance and direct our lives and we will call it fate. Therefore, performance counselling takes a whole-athlete approach. It focuses on psychological wellbeing as well as optimising performance. It offers a place where athletes can explore what is going on in their lives both within and outside of their sport. This often includes: personal and professional growth, relationship issues, financial worries, coping with injury, fear of re-injury, family illness and grief, work-life balance, subtle addictions (e.g. shopping, social media, Fortnite), stress, anxiety and depression, disordered eating, and a nagging feeling of stuckness.
Sometimes we create our own limitations. And if we can get of our own way, something amazing happens. By creating the space and putting in the time, we become more present in our lives, more available to our families, more resilient in the face of uncertainty and more powerful as athletes, leaders, and team members than we could ever imagine.
