Yoga, Meditation + Breathwork

Book a session

We have stone age nervous systems. We are born expecting a rich and sensuous relationship with ourselves, each other and the natural world. We are born with an innate longing for connection, for belonging, for wholeness. To become fully and completely who we are. Without self-doubt. Without holding back. Without hiding the parts of ourselves that are difficult to love. Yoga is the union of everything we must do to realise this wholeness.

This is the central premise of my work: we are whole, we are worthy and every single piece of us is sacred.

Modern life means that many of us have become disconnected from this wholeness. We have forgotten who we are and why we are here. We feel lost and lonely – alienated from our body, isolated from community, and cut off from nature. We experience health problems – acid reflux, anxiety, asthma, depression, irritable bowel syndrome, lower back pain, and osteoporosis – because our lifestyles have become so disconnected from how humans are born to live. And many of us have forgotten what it feels like to be healthy and happy, to wake up each day with energy and excitement, to feel fully alive.

Yoga is a journey of remembering, reconnecting and reawakening. The word itself comes from the Sanskrit – the oldest language in India – root, yuj, meaning ‘to yolk’ or ‘to unite’. It is both a state of connection and a collection of techniques that allow us to feel more connected to ourselves, each other, and life; a tool to help us remember who we are.

Yoga poses (asanas)

Our yoga journey usually begins with the yoga poses themselves; with stepping on your yoga mat and breathing and moving in a way that makes you feel stronger and calmer, that frees you from regrets about the past and worries about the future and connects you with this breath, this body, this moment, right here, right now.

Benefits include:
  • Increases strength
  • Improves flexibility
  • Enhances bone density
  • Decreases blood pressure
  • Strengthens immune system
  • Reduces stress hormones
  • Reorganises nervous system to cultivate energy, vitality + tranquillity
  • Improves body awareness + acceptance

Meditation

Picture
In the same way our physical practice (asanas) trains our body, meditation gives us a way to train the mind so that we can see ourselves, our lives and the world more clearly without looking at it through the lens of our fears, prejudices and conditioning.

Meditation gives us a space to open up a conversation with our hearts, learn how to be with whatever arises in the present moment no matter how unwanted or uncomfortable, and, very often, to meet ourselves unmasked for the first time.

I teach a variety of styles of meditation so you can explore which ones feel right for you. These include:

  • Breath-focussed meditations
  • Mantra meditations
  • Embodied meditations
  • Expressive meditations
  • Loving-kindness meditation
  • Personalised guided meditations

Breathwork (pranayama)

Breath is everything in yoga. The breath is a bridge between the mind and body, an anchor to the present moment, an ever-present tool that can brings us out of our head and into the only place life exists: now. There is an assortment of ancient breathing practices – some cleansing, some calming, some invigorating – which I can guide you through for healing, wellbeing and peak performance.

These include:

  • Belly breathing
  • Square breathing
  • Four face breathing
  • Full yogic breath
  • Stomach pumping breath
  • Skull shining breath
  • Alternate nostril breathing
  • Breath retention
  • Fire breath

The Sacred Path

A 12-week coaching programme for healing, spiritual awakening + personal growth.
Picture
I created The Sacred Path to help women reconnect with their whole, authentic, worthy selves.

Because, as we grow up we lose touch with our true selves and instead become everything the world tells us we should be: The good girl, the perfect daughter, the straight A student, the nice, polite, well-behaved woman — self-controlled, self- deprecating and self-sacrificing, quiet, submissive and tame.

Psychologists call this the false self. We begin creating it early in childhood. Building a wall to protect our true selves from rejection. Constructing it brick-by-brick as the world tells us how we need to act, what we need to believe and who we need to be.

Disconnected from the truth and beauty of who we really are, we become tame. We shrink ourselves and give away our power because we have been conditioned to believe that being small, weak and powerless also means being good, worthy and loveable. We find ourselves living our lives according to ‘shoulds’ and ‘musts’ and ‘ought tos’, constantly evaluating and assessing our worth as human beings against unattainable standards of beauty and success.

The Sacred Path is a journey back to your centre, back to your true self, back to your divinity, your femininity, your worthiness. Drawing on yoga psychology (yamas + niyamas), the 12-week programme guides you on a path of self-discovery, self-healing and self-love.

How this programme works

Once a week for twelve weeks, we will meet for 50 minutes (either in-person or online) to gently explore what’s holding you back from being your true self and stepping fully into your power.

Drawing on the psychology of yoga, each week you will be given journal prompts, meditations and self-care practices that will help you deepen your healing and awakening in-between sessions.

  • Module 1: Opening
  • Module 2: Non-harm + compassion (ahimsa)
  • Module 3: Non-lying + honesty (satya)
  • Module 4: Non-stealing + abundance (asteya)
  • Module 5: Non-excess + balance (brahmacharya)
  • Module 6: Non-attachment (aparigrapha)
  • Module 7: Purity + deconditioning (saucha)
