Mindful Living Practice — Send Happiness
One thing I’ve learned since I started to live more mindfully is that no act of kindness is too small. Just because we can’t save the whole world, doesn’t mean we can’t look after the tiny plot of land outside our back door. Just because our voice can’t reach millions of people, doesn’t mean we can’t whisper quietly to the people who are listening. Just because we can’t do everything, doesn’t mean we can’t do something. Small is beautiful too.
So, this week, we’re going to focus on a tiny act of kindness which in some small way will help others be happy, and will bring happiness to you too!
It goes like this: Every hour, wish two people well.
If you are in the office or out and about, pick too people you see and say silently to yourself “May you be happy”. If you’re on your own, pick the first two people who pop into your mind and wish them well.
Notice how good it feels to hope for happiness in others — how your heart relaxes and a soft smile comes to your face. These people may never know you’re wishing them happiness, not consciously anyway, but trust that it will make a difference. Because it will. Just by sharing your wish for others to be happy, you’ll become more conscious of the things you can do to contribute to the collective happiness of the world, and with this awareness, your actions will transform into something beautiful.
